Pest guide

Common houseplant pests

Inspect first; treat the pest you actually find.

Check leaf undersides, new growth, stem joints, and the soil line under bright light. Webbing may suggest spider mites; cottony clusters can indicate mealybugs; fixed bumps may be scale; silvery scarring and dark specks can accompany thrips.

Control basics

Separate the plant, rinse or wipe visible pests where appropriate, repeat inspections, and use a product labeled for the plant and pest in your location. Follow the label exactly and protect people, pets, and beneficial insects.
