Indoor light

Understanding low light

Low light is survivable light—not no light.

Indoor “low light” usually means a place that receives useful ambient daylight but little or no direct sun. Human eyes adapt better than plants, so a room can feel bright while providing limited energy for growth.

Signs light is insufficient

Long gaps between leaves, smaller new growth, fading variegation, leaning, and soil that stays wet unusually long can all point to low light.

Improve conditions

Move the plant closer to a suitable window, clean the glass and leaves, rotate periodically, or add a properly positioned grow light. Make changes gradually.
